Experienced, thoughtful advice that will energize your counseling style and practice.

Work directly with longtime writing instructor and essay coach Debra Resnicoff, LMSW; BA Literature and Writing, Columbia University; MFA Screenwriting, Columbia University School of the Arts.

The demands of working with young writers on their personal essays and supplements are often intense, even for experienced IEC's. I used to ask myself, "Why is it that while I continue to develop as a writing coach and editor I still find myself frustrated and sometimes exhausted by student progress on essays, or lack thereof. Why why why?"

Then I decided to be kinder to myself, and started to ask for consulting help from a fellow editor on particularly troublesome essays. It turned out, all I needed was another pair of eyes and a second brain. I started to grow again as a writing coach and an editor - and my students have benefitted greatly from my expanded perspective.

This turning point led me to devote part of my practice to helping IEC's (who juggle so many hats) become their best at working with students on their essays.

How it works:

Leveraging your preferred counseling style  - and enthusiasm for student success - we utilize one or more sessions to discuss anything from a supplement prompt to a draft to an interpersonal challenge. I can empathize with any challenge, help you work toward solutions, and gain knowledge you can use in the future.

Would you like to...

- benefit from written notes on student drafts and/or Zoom sessions?

- learn more about how to work with students applying to highly selective schools and specialized programs?

- reduce your stress and free your time for other tasks?

- troubleshoot the process when a student resists recommendations or seems stuck.

- discuss tips for working with student writers who have learning challenges and/or mental health issues?

- know how to address perfectionism and determine when an essay is "good enough"?

-  use your intuition to increase student confidence?
